Download MP3's and Burn your own CD's!
MP3's are
digital sound files which are only about 10% the size of regular
sound and music files. Because of this they are easily sent over the
internet and stored in small devices like iPods for ease of
portability. This technology has in recent years been perfected so
it is swiftly changing the way we acquire and use music.
If you are over 30 (OK, maybe over 40) then you may think the
technology of the iPod and MP3 players and downloading music over the
net is for kids. Well, you are right! But it’s also the wave of
the future because everybody is presently doing it and soon CD’s
will go the way of the vinyl album and be obsolete. And then
you’ll really have to get up to speed and learn to burn those silly
MP3’s!
But it’s actually not a difficult process, and you can learn it now. This is the formula:
1. Purchase the MP3
2. Download the MP3
3. Place the MP3 in your media player
4. Burn the CD!
Detailed Instructions:
1. Purchase the MP3. Immediately upon purchasing, an email is sent to you with a link to the downloadable file(s). Click on this link.
2. Download the MP3.
A .zip file is downloaded to your computer. Zip files are
compressed and are in an envelope or folder that contains one or
more files. There is usaully a program on your computer which
automatically opens the .zip file and displays its contents. If
this doesn’t happen automatically, you may be asked to find the
program to “un-zip” your file, usally found under
"Compressed Files" on PC's, or "Applications/Stuffit" on Mac's.
Here are two commercial programs if you don't have one installed (or find one for free under "Zip Files" on the internet):
For PC's:
Winzip
For Mac's:
Stuffit Expander
Find the program and drag your .zip files into its open program icon to open them.
3. Place the MP3 in your Media Player.
When the .zip file is opened, you will see your MP3 file(s). Drag these
into your MP3 Media Player. This is usually already installed on your
computer. If you don’t have one installed, the following are
recommened:
For PC’s:
Winamp
Windows Media Player (free)
For Mac’s and PC’s:
iTunes (free)
The recommended player is iTunes: it is cross-platform (Mac and PC),
has numerous capablilities including the ability to play millions of
songs from iTunes, and is free.
4. Burn the CD.
After you have dragged your MP3 files into your Media Player of
choice, highlight those files and press your “Burn CD”
button (may vary according to program). Insert a blank CD, and the program does the rest.
And you didn’t even have to leave home, except to get a few blank disks!
As an aside, you can place the MP3’s in a folder or within your
media player and play them from your computer anytime. Or load them
into your iPod or other MP3 player and you have hundreds or thousands
of songs whenever you want, on the go.
Welcome to the Digital Download Age. Enjoy... and Happy Listening!
